Whores. And Other Terms of Endearment

https://diabetesfrees.com/prandin-review-side-effects-contraindications-dosage-and-administration/ Every culture at every time in history has a group of words in its language that would be considered vulgar– words that are off-limits. In America, we are accustomed to “four-letter” words and other off-limits words. These are words that we call swear words, pornographic language, strong language, cuss words. And while most Christians are shocked and aghast whenever they hear someone speak one of these words, considered in our vernacular to be strong, dirty, or sinful, they are completely unaware that the Bible is littered with certain words, especially sexually charged words, often spoken by God himself.

You’d be pretty shocked and maybe even dismayed at first. But what if I told you that this language is purposefully used to show you a beautiful and unlikely reality? Or that every time you encounter someone (probably us) being called a whore, prostitute, or harlot it is highlighting a beautiful reality of God’s love? You’d be pretty skeptical wouldn’t you?

They highlight the jealousy God has for an idolatrous people. Just look at a sampling of what I talk about:

  • “You played the whore also with the Assyrians, because you were not satisfied; yes, you played the whore with them, and still you were not satisfied.” -Ezekiel 16:28
  • “They played the whore in Egypt; they played the whore in their youth; there their breasts were pressed and their virgin bosoms handled.” -Ezekiel 23:3
  • “So they shall no more sacrifice their sacrifices to goat demons, after whom they whore. This shall be a statute forever for them throughout their generations.” -Leviticus 17:7
  • “I will not punish your daughters when they play the whore, nor your brides when they commit adultery; for the men themselves go aside with prostitutes and sacrifice with cult prostitutes, and a people without understanding shall come to ruin. Though you play the whore, O Israel, let not Judah become guilty. Enter not into Gilgal, nor go up to Beth-aven, and swear not, ‘As the Lord lives.'” -Hosea 4:14-15
  • “But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.” -Hebrews 12:8

Beveren free gay dating uxbridge on God isn’t using this strong sexual language just to be provocative. In all of these passages in context you will find that he is highlighting the love that he has for his own people who have forsaken the lover of their souls to chase after other lovers. This language presents the stark contrast of what it means to be God’s whoring bride.

gay dating city in dover God is so jealous for your love that he is willing to call you and I as we truly are: Whores, prostitutes, harlots who chase after other lesser lovers. And what makes these terms of endearment is that this same God who opens his mouth and says, “These people are being whores, chasing after other lovers and I will judge them” relents because of Christ and says, “How can I do this to my bride? How can I let them chase after these idols. Even though they do this, how can I do anything but love them for they are mine!” And he can’t help but forgive and reach in welcome to you.

So, the reason I say these words act as terms of endearment in Scripture is because they help us understand how much God loves us by sizing us up for who we are. And so, when we talk about our sin we need to get real, because the Scripture is. You and I aren’t just a little messed up. We aren’t just people who stumble. We are whores! We are brides who actively reject love from our Savior, turn and run to idols. And in Scripture God tells it as it is, not because He’s being really hip and using provocative language, but because he wants you to see his love for all that it is, and I think we need to speak of his love as such.

Someone called you a whore. I bet you never thought that someone would be the One that loves you more than anyone else ever has or will.
